Scattergood, Moczulski lead Volleyball to season opening win over Mount Holyoke

South Hadley, MA—The duo of Reagan Scattergood and Kelly Moczulski notched 14 kills apiece as they lead the MCLA Volleyball team to a hard fought 3-1 victory in the season opener tonight at Mount Holyoke.  The Trailblazers are now 1-0 while the Lyons fall to 0-1.

Scattergood collected a career best 14 kills on 29 attacks.  Moczulski was just as efficient collecting her 14 kills on just 25 attacks.

The Trailblazers rolled in the opening set 25-17.  MCLA got off to a nice start on the heels of Scattergood and first year Trailblazer Chloie Garber.  They jumped out to a commanding lead and never looked back.

The hosts would answer in the second set however to tie things up.  MHC took the second set 25-20 to head to a pivotal third set.

MHC took advantage early in the third set to lead 16-10 before MCLA would rally.  The Trailblazers would rattle off seven straight points to pull ahead 17-16.  Natasha Stewart keyed the spurt with two aces and an assist.  The teams would battle back and forth and eventually were knotted up at 25-25.  Stewart added a kill and then Moczulski put the set away off a Scattergood feed to put MCLA up 2-1.

The third set seemed to take the life out of MHC.  MCLA controlled the fourth set and cruised to a 25-12 win to close out the match.

Garber had a nice first match in a Trailblazer uniform with 12 kills and 8 digs.  Scattergood added 11 digs and 3 aces for MCLA.  Stewart notched 40 assists and 8 aces to lead the team in both categories.  Ellie Walter-Goodspeed was solid on defense with a team best 15 digs.

MCLA is off until Tuesday night when they head to Bay Path for an 8pm non league contest.
