Women's Basketball Falls to Regis

FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State women's basketball fell to the Pride of Regis College this evening in non-conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/10/24

- Score: Regis 82, Fitchburg 60

- Records: Regis (4-10), Fitchburg (4-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Pride jumped to a 25-6 score in the first quarter. Fitchburg bounced back after the one-sided start to the contest as they matched the Prides 25 in the second to their 10. Regis shot 53% from the floor in the first quarter to Fitchburg's 7.7%. The second quarter flipped, with Fitchburg shooting 50% and Regis falling to 19%. Although the second quarter was all, Fitchburg Regis still took a four-point lead into the break.

- Each team found themselves in foul trouble in the second half, with most players on the court having 3 or 4 fouls. Regis took the break to snap out of their struggles in the second quarter and ran away with the game, outscoring the Falcons 47 to 29 in the second half.

- Courtney Doherty tied the game-high with 17 points, along with seven rebounds for Regis. Madi Zancan put up 14 points and ten rebounds for the double-double despite missing about half the game because of foul trouble. Erika Marinelli also had double-digits with 13 points.

- Rylie Harlow (Hanson, MA) led the team in scoring again, matching Doherty's 17 points. She also pulled down ten rebounds to complete the double-double. Stephanie Hart (Shirley, MA) topped the Falcons in boards with 11.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shooting: Regis ended the contest, shooting 41.3% from the floor, 14.3% from three, and 81.3% from the line. Fitchburg finished shooting 31.9%, 28.6% from three, and 63.2% from the line.

-  Rebounds: Regis 53, Fitchburg 50

-  Assists: Regis 11, Fitchburg 10
