Owls Break Lasers Four Match Win Streak in 3-0 Sweep

NEWTON, MA-- The Westfield State Owls women's volleyball team broke up Lasell College's four-match winning streak with a 3-0 sweep at the Athletic Center on Thursday night.  Westfield defeated Lasell 25-19, 25-18, and 25-22 in non-conference action that boosted their overall record to 3-8, while Lasell drops to 4-5. 

 

The Owls put up an impressive .257 attack percentage as a team, with 41 total kills.  Twenty of those kills were notched by the combined efforts of Julia Warner (Lee, MA) and Alex Shaw (East Falmouth, MA) who donned 10 a piece.   Kerin DeGirolamo (North Attleboro, MA) distributed assists on 20 of those points while Kara McDowell (Pittstown, NJ) added 10 assists and six digs.

 

Westfield's Kayleigh Shea (Chelmsford, MA) was the top defender of the night, coming up big in the back court with 20 digs.  Closest to her in the digs column was teammate Lindsay Rescott (Northport, NY) who collected 18 digs while also contributing with five aces in the match.

 

Lasell's Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) completed her third double-double of the year with 16 assists and 14 digs.   Lasell's offense was produced mainly by Sara Biondo (Coventry, RI) and Eileen Barrett with eight and seven kills, respectively. Biondo added seven digs, as did Anna Feeter (Peterborough, NH), who also chipped in with six assists as well. 

 

Senior libero Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) recorded eight digs in the losing effort, and middle hitter Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) added four kills for the night. 

 

Lasell heads into a trimatch set for Saturday, September 17th at Framingham State College. There, the Lasers will face not only the hosting Rams, but also Daniel Webster College to complete the trifecta. The game times are slated for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
