Jorgensen nets first collegiate tally

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's soccer dropped a tough 2-1 decision to the Bison of Nichols College this afternoon in non-conference action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Nichols grabbed the 1-0 advantage in the 35th minute of action as graduate student Nick Cancellaro (Watertown, Mass.) gathered a feed from junior Nikolas Padilla (Worcester, Mass.) and redirected a shot into the back of the net for his first tally of the season.

Fitchburg State knotted the score at 1-1 with just two seconds left in the half when freshman Bennett Jorgensen (Cologne, Germany) buried a penalty kick inside the far post for his first collegiate marker.

Following the break, the Bison regained the lead in the 63rd minute of action with senior Nicholas McGrath (Northborough, Mass.) striking for his first goal on the 2021 campaign off an assist from junior Dawson Quint (Waukesha, Wis.), resulting in the 2-1 final.

  • Nichols held a 20-6 margin in shots, while also finishing with a 5-3 edge in corner kicks
