Drapeau Becomes Lasell’s All-Time Leader in Blocks while Lasers Pick up a Pair of Wins

FRAMINGHAM, MA—Senior middle hitter Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) became the Lasell College women's volleyball individual career leader in blocks on Saturday as she put away five blocks against Framingham State and Daniel Webster College in a tri-match to surpass the previous record of 232 and finished the weekend with 233 total career blocks.  Drapeau was instrumental in the Lasers' 3-2 double victories over the Rams and the Eagles also contributing with 24 kills and 16 digs.

 

Lasell first matched up against the Framingham State Rams, defeating the local rivals in five very tight sets: 22-25, 26-24, 25-18, 23-25, and 15-13.  Drapeau ended up tying the career record at the conclusion of that contest, making two solo and two assisted blocks to bring her career total to 232, and tied with Kelsey Schmidt  (Ballston Spa, NY), a 2008 graduate of Lasell College.  The senior middle also put away 16 kills on 29 swings, with only three errors in the match, good for an outstanding .448 clip in the match.  Two service aces and eight digs completed Drapeau's statistical line.

 

Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) also had a phenomenal outing over the weekend at Framingham State. Against the Rams, Crozier tallied 34 assists, averaging 6.8 helpers per set, and added seven digs.  Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) recorded a match-high 22 digs and sophomore Sara Biondo (Coventry, RI) added a double-double 16 digs and 11 kills. 

 

The Laser rookies also put on a show, offensively by Alexis Chappell (Springfield, MA) and Stella Edwards (Quincy, MA) who each put down seven points on their attack, and defensively by Anna Feeter (Peterborough, NH) added 10 digs and three service aces to the win.

 

In the second contest of the day against Daniel Webster, Biondo led the offense with 14 kills, and accomplished her second double-double performance of the day, adding 17 digs into the mix.  Drapeau and Chappell each notched eight kills and combined for 14 digs while Feeter and Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, MA) added 11 kills between them.

 

Crozier also recorded a double-double performance in the contest, her third of the season, coming up with a match-best 19 digs while dishing out 36 assists.  Defense was strong all-around for Lasell as Marisa Visocchi (Whitman, MA) and Feeter each had double-figures in the dig column as well.  Visocchi recorded 13 while Feeter registered 16.

 

Drapeau's single solo block of the game allowed her to collect the Laser all-time record.  She also holds the career record for block assists (85) and is 43 blocks from becoming the career leader in solo blocks, a record still held by Schmidt, at 191. '

 

The Lasers defeated the Eagles in come-from-behind style by scores of 24-26, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16, and 15-13.

 

Lasell returns to action on Tuesday, September 20th at Rhode Island College for a non-conference match with the Anchorwomen.  Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
