Falcons Clawed By Bears, 42-0

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team fell to the visiting Bears of Bridgewater State 42-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action today at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Bridgewater State took a commanding 28-0 lead after the first half. After an opening kick-off fumble by the Falcons quarterback James Cahoon (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) connected for an 11 yard touchdown to TJ Harrison (Watertown, Mass.) for the game's first score.

In the second quarter the Bears doubled the score when Cahoon found senior wide receiver Kyle Torres (Waltham, Mass.) for a 20 yard connection. Bridgewater State would tack on a pair of scores when senior William Pointer (Milford, Mass.) had a 4-yard run and Cahoon to Torres connected on a 46-yard touchdown.

Trailing 35-0, the Green and Gold put together a quality scoring chance converting a fourth-and-eight with a 10-yard run from Thomas Farr (Princeton, Mass.) followed by a 12-yard gain from junior Frank Simms (Saugus, Mass.). Quarterback Dominic Medina (Miami, Fla.) found wide receiver Jordan Dickerson (Springfield, Mass.) for a 10-yard gain to the Bridgewater 39 yard line. However the play stalled and the Falcons turned the ball over on downs.

Bridgewater would add a late touchdown for the 42-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Wilson threw for 15 yards for the Green and Gold, while Alfred Robinson (Tracy, Calif.) ran for 46 yards. Junior Benjamin Palizay (Brunswick, Maine) had 15 reception yards.
  • Cahoon finished the day 13-for-23 for 173 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Adam Couch (Winchendon, Mass.) ran for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Torres had two receptions for 66 yards and 2 scores.
  • Linebacker Brendan Albert (Canton, Mass.) led the Bears defense with six solo and two assisted tackles. Junior Brian Campagna (Canton, Mass.) chipped in with seven total tackles.
  • Sophomore Eduardo Guzman (Methuen, Mass.) paced the Falcons defense with seven total tackles (4 solo, 3 assisted) while sophomore Devin Current (New Carisle, Ohio) and classmate Michael Brown (San Antonio, Texas) each had six total tackles apiece.
  • Senior Rodney Bonhomme (Bridgeport, Conn.) had an interception for the Green and Gold.
