Second Half Action Seals Victory for Lancers Over Rams

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Soccer team was back in action on Saturday afternoon when they hosted MASCAC rivals Framingham State. The team wore Pink Jersey's in support of the Rosen Cancer Awareness Fund.

The Rosen Cancer Awareness Fund was created by alumni couple Greg Rosen 86' and Pam Rosen 87', which provides robust programming that supports peer-to-peer education regarding early cancer detection.

This year, four Worcester State fall Athletics teams donned Pink Out t-shirts, designed with the Rosen Cancer Awareness logo, throughout select games during the first two weeks in October. Pink Out shirts will also be for sale. There will be free informational giveaways and raffle tickets at $25 each to win a scratch ticket tree that includes $500 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets, with the winner being announced at halftime of the Homecoming football game October 28. All proceeds from the raffle and sales will benefit the Rosen Cancer Awareness fund.

Worcester:  4  Framingham:  0

The first half saw the Lancers on the offensive through most of the 45 minute action, working the ball around the field. The Rams worked diligently to keep the Lancers out of the box, allowing just four corner kicks in a half dominated by Lancer action. Rams goalkeeper for the day, Regan Fein(North Attleboro, MA), recorded 10 saves in the half while the Lancers recorded 16 attempts. Sophomore Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) led the team's attack in the first half with three attempts, while the Lancers from the defense to the attack worked to get their way behind the Rams defense. In the 43' minute of action the Lancers were finally able to break the stalemate with a goal by Emma Jacob (Billerica, MA) as she snuck past the goaltender off a dropped pass from Addison Enos (Middleboro, MA).

The second half saw an uptick in action for the Lancers as they spent a majority of the second half in the attacking end looking to expand upon their 1-0 lead. The Lancers dominated the half but were unable to find a second goal until Lucy Watson (Blackstone,MA) was able to pick up a rebounded save from Condon's attempt. The ball knocked past the goalkeeper's hand onto Watson's foot, where a quick release doubled the Lancer's lead. Worcester was not content to back down and continue their presence in the box. The game looked to be going to a 2-0 final, when the final two minutes saw a flurry of action that resulted in a deep shot from first year Olivia Magierowski( to sail over Fein's head just barely grazing the crossbar to find the back of the net. The scoring did not cease there, as Condon, who had been deprived of her goal for most of the match, finally connected with 30 seconds left to send the Lancers home with the 4-0 victory.

Worcester State (3-7-2, 3-2) returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Salem State for a MASCAC battle with the Vikings. Framingham State now sits at (1-11, 1-4) and are next in action on Saturday at home versus Mass. Maritime.
