Ice Hockey Doubles Up Corsairs In Conference Tilt

Imala and Maillet net register one goal and one assist for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, MA. The Fitchburg State ice hockey team registered a 4-2 victory over the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening from the Wallace Civic Center.

How It Happened

The Falcons broke the scoreless deadlock at the 5:29 mark when senior Cole Archambeault (Leominster, MA) received a feed from junior Michael Macchioni (North Kingstown, RI) and senior Oliver Cookson (Sheffield, MA) and ripped a shot into the right side of the net for his first tally on the season for the 1-0 edge.

The Corsairs knotted the score minutes later with sophomore Tyler Stewart (Pittsburgh, PA) netting his second goal of the year off assists from freshman Alex Walker (Latrobe, PA) and graduate student Jake Maynard (St. John, IN). The visitors grabbed the lead with eight minutes remaining in the stanza as senior Zach Tarantino (Jackson, NJ) blasted a shot inside the far post for his first score of the 2023-24 campaign with assists from Maynard and senior Billy McDevitt (Livonia, NY) to make the score 2-1.

Fitchburg State retied the contest at the 14:37 mark when freshman Nicklas Millhorn (Brownstown, MI) found the back of the net with his team leading fourth marker on the season as graduate student Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, Que) and freshman Adam Nedelka (Srch, Czech Republic) assisted on the play.

The Green and Gold regained the lead with just under a minute and half left in the middle stanza with sophomore Jeremy Maillet (Leominster, MA) wristing a shot into the upper left corner for his first goal of the season with assists from junior Samuel Rennick (Salisbury, MA) and freshman Michael Imala (Oak Lawn, IL) for the 3-2 advantage.

In the third period of play, Fitchburg State extended the lead to 4-2 two and half minutes into the period as Imala settled a pass from Rennick and Maillet and deposited a shot into the right side of the net for his second score of the year.
