Lancers Fall in Single Game Set to Oles

Lancers Fall in Single Game Set to Oles

Worcester, MA- After grabbing their first win of the season versus Elmhurst yesterday afternoon, the Worcester State Baseball team (1-5, 0-0) would go for nine innings in a single game meet up with St. Olaf College (5-6, 0-0). The Lancers are aiming to grab the first win needed to end the trip at .500 before returning to their New England slate of games for the season.

Final

St. Olaf: 10

Worcester State: 1

How it Happened:

Zach Scotti would get the nod for Worcester today in their single game showdown with St. Olaf, who would open up scoring in the bottom of the first after two hit by pitches and a walk would see the bases loaded up with just a single out on the board. A Glampe ground ball to right field would bring in the first two runs of the game for the Oles.

Worcester would threaten in the second but with two runners on, the Lancers would come away empty handed. A favor that was returned by Worcester in the bottom of the inning as St. Olaf would load the bases but fail to come away with a run. Worcester would snag their lone run of the game in the third after Tom Halliwell would be called safe at home off an error by the catcher to cut the game down to a single run.

Tedy Cove would step in for Scotti in the third offering up a ground ball to the Ole's but an error on the play would find the runner safe at first and score a play later off another error and a single to see St. Olaf up 3-1. A fourth and fifth run would be recorded before Cove would take the final batter down swinging.

The fourth inning would see quick work from both half of the inning but a homer by St. Olaf in the bottom of the fifth would see the score move to 6-1 with two singles following that would send run number seven in. One final double before the last out could be recorded would settle the game at 8-1 to close the fifth inning action. Nolan Turner would take over duties from Cove and the following three innings would see each team buckle down on defense giving up little action to be worked with. The bottom of the eight saw a last burst of action as a single and walk laid fertile ground for double with two outs to knock in the final two runs of the game. Worcester would get one final chance at the top of the ninth, but it took just 14 pitches to conclude the game as Worcester fell to St. Olaf 10-1.

What's Next:

The Lancers now sit with a (1-6, 0-0) record after the day and will aim to get in two 7-inning games versus Amherst College tomorrow as they navigate around the expected weather scheduled for Central Florida tomorrow. First pitch is currently set for 10:30am.
