Football Lanced by Worcester State in Conference Opener

WORCESTER, MA: Fitchburg State football was defeated by the Lancers of Worcester State this afternoon in conference action.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/16/23

- Score: Worcester 33, Fitchburg 13

- Records: Worcester (1-2, 1-0 MASCAC), Fitchburg (0-3, 0-1 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Falcons put together a six-play, 57-yard drive in 3:41 to start the scoring off at the start of the second quarter. Peter Kwakye (Methuen, MA) would beat all defenders on a breakaway rush for 36 yards.

- The Lancers would respond by going off with 20 unanswered points on three touchdown passes from Parke Hardesky. In that span, his third touchdown toss was the longest at 39 yards.

- Fitchburg would end the run with another solid drive of six plays, 62 yards, in 2:53. Rocky Marchitelli (Gunnison, CO) found Sahir Gomez (Whittier, CA) for the 32-yard touchdown catch.

-Worcester would again respond to push the game back out to a more than one possession game on another Hardesky pass for his fourth TD of the game. This one was tossed to Lance Williams for a 35-yard reception. The Lancers would add on their last score in the fourth on a 95-yard interception return by Curt Marshall with just 1:53 to go.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Passing Yards: Worcester 198, Fitchburg 153.

-  Rushing yards: Fitchburg 66, Worcester 5
