Volleyball Splits Tri-Match with Westfield State and Maine Maritime

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier women's volleyball team split today's first home tri-match of the 2021 season. Game one against Westfield State led to a Raider victory 3-0, while game two was a 2-3 loss to Maine Maritime. Today's contests were both non-conference matchups.

  THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/18/2021

- Score: Game one: Rivier 3. Westfield 0: sets (25-14, 26-24, 27-25). Game two: Maritime 3, Rivier 2: sets (25-23, 27-25, 22-25, 23-25, 15-4)

- Records: Rivier (2-3), Maritime (5-3), Westfield (1-11)

 Game One: vs. Westfield State

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders swept the owls behind the arms of Brynn Roche (Johnston, RI), Lily Sills (Carlisle, MA), and Lily Blodgett (Dunstable, MA). Roche finished with a match high 11 kills and two block assists. Sills tallied ten kills of her own along with two aces and five digs. Blodgett also put together a ten kill morning with three digs.  

Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, NY) was once again the driving force of the Rivier offense finishing with 34 assists, three kills, and six digs.

- For the Owls, Shawna Crowley led the squad with seven kills and six digs.

 Game Two: vs. Maine Maritime

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Raiders jumped up to a 2-0 lead in game two versus the Mariners, but the visiting team wasn't going away easily as they put together a three set run to take it in five.

- The Raiders struggled to find their groove in sets 3-5 and finished the game with a .068 kill percentage. Sills found herself leading the team with 12 kills. She was followed by Blodgett, who finished with 11 kills. Pollard added 36 more assists onto her stats for the season.

- The Mariners were held together by Rachel Melampy, who could not make a mistake today. Versus the Raiders, she finished with a solid 20 kills, nine digs, and two blocks.

 UP NEXT:

- The Rivier women's volleyball team will be back in action this Tuesday when Emerson makes the trip to the Muldoon Center. The first serve is set for 7:00 PM.
