FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's ice hockey team fell short to Fitchburg State University by a final score of 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Wallace Civic Center.
With the loss, Worcester State drops to 5-12-2 on the season and 3-8-1 in MASCAC play.
Kevin Perry scored the game's only goal just 6:51 into the first period, a tally that held up straight through to the final horn.
Worcester State was unable to convert on a trio of power play chances, including two in the third period. The visiting Lancers outshot Fitchburg State by a margin of 37-26 in the contest.
Lancer goaltender Nevin Tardif (Dunstable, Mass.) took the loss despite making 25 saves. Brian McGrath turned in a 37-save shutout for the Falcons.
Worcester State will return to the ice on Thursday evening for a road MASCAC battle with Westfield State. Puck drop from Westfield is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
