Women's Soccer Plays Trailblazers To Draw On Senior Day

Westcott & Meixsell net one goal each for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's soccer team drew even with the Trailblazers of MCLA, 2-2 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon from Elliot Field on senior day as the Falcons honored seniors Skyla Vaudo, Ashley Porter & Kayleen McCormack in pre-game ceremony.

Score: Fitchburg State 2, MCLA 2

Records: Fitchburg State (2-9-4, 1-3-2 MASCAC) | MCLA (3-8-3, 0-5-1 MASCAC)

How It Happened

MCLA nearly took the lead midway through the opening frame as freshman Camryn Belisle (Stamford, VT) streaked in on a breakaway attempt, but Falcon keeper Skyla Vaudo (Burlington, MA) made a stellar diving save to preserve the 0-0 stalemate.

The Trailblazers grabbed the 1-0 advantage in the 28th minute of action when newcomer Kylie DeMaio (Roxbury, NY) blasted a shot inside the lower right corner for her third score of the 2023 campaign.

Fitchburg State knotted the score at 1-1 at the 37:52 mark with sophomore Adrianna Westcott (Sayreville, NJ) redirected a shot into the left side of the net for her third marker on the year as classmates Zoe Chrisostomides (Scotch Plains, NJ) and Charlotte Meixsell (Boxford, MA) assisted on the play.

Following the intermission, the Falcons broke the 1-1 deadlock in the 62nd minute with Meixsell ripping a shot top shelf that deflected off the bottom of the cross bar and into the back of the net for her second marker on the season to make the score 2-1.

The Trailblazers tied the contest with 47 seven seconds remaining in regulation as senior Alyssa Porter (Boylston, MA) settled a feed from sophomore Cidnee Frymire (Tonawanda, NY) and connected for her second tally of the season.
